The forthcoming (2016) Many Deaths of Tom Thomson: Separating Fact and Fiction reviews much of the testimony that has been collected about the tragic events, assesses the dominant theories, and discredits much of what has been written on the topic. While speculation has run rampant that Thomson did not die accidentally – as the presiding coroner concluded – but might have committed suicide or been murdered, close consideration of the documentary record reveals little to support these theories, revealing them to be the product of overactive imaginations and sloppy research. The Many Deaths of Tom Thomson relies on primary documents collected during production research for the book-length website, Death on A Painted Lake: The Tom Thomson Tragedy. Death On A Painted Lake is one of twelve sites created as part of the international award-winning educational web project, Great Unsolved Mysteries in Canadian History.
